Gender balance: did we get to 40%?
The percentage of women in the European Parliament has grown from 16% in 1979 to 37% in 2014. What about 2019 elections? We did the math and this percentage should have increased at least by 2 percentage points, getting us closer to 40%!
From our estimates, countries like Greece, Cyprus and Belgium maintained the same trend of 2014, with an under-representation of women in the EP. Amongst the feminist frontrunners we find, as in 2014, Sweden and Malta.
