Braking the dress code for the first day in the European Parliament
Mark Twain famously said “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society”. As far as we know, nobody turned up in Strasborg this week in their “birthday suit”! But, judging from some MEP outfits, a jacket and tie is not that fashionable anymore in Strasbourg. However, the staff hasn’t quite got used to it yet, as they mistook an MEP for an intruder…
Magid Magid, a young Green MEP, was accidentally asked to leave the Parliament building. His yellow baseball cap, his t-shirt with the slogan “F**k fascism” and his combat boots facilitated this misunderstanding! Another extravagant outfit was sported by Mick Wallace, an Irish Sinn Fein member. Tousled long blond hair and sleeveless pink t-shirt. Unusual, let’s say, for a euro-deputy…
Anyways, one cannot judge a person's capabilities based on his or her clothing and appearance and we are glad to see some eccentric new personalities in the EP.
