A diverse European Parliament
“Unity in diversity”: the motto of the European Union. However, during the last mandate, there were only a handful of MEPs whose origins are outside Europe; far from making the European Parliament the representation of ethic diversity. But hey, the last European Elections were a turning point!
An Italian association counted around 30 MEPs with foreign origins in the new European Parliament; going from Africa to South Korea. Not only has the number risen, but also the majority of them is under forty years of age! An example? The British green MEP Magic Magid, former Somali refugee who’s now representing the voice of immigrants in the EP.
